Wendell was born June 1, 1962 to Ernest and the late Elizabeth Bennett of Horton, Alabama. Wendell was employed at Pilgrim Pride for the last 35 years. He ran the crane at the feed mill. He took pride in his job from a young man catching chickens to weighing chickens and unloading barges at the feed mill. A hard working man, devoted father, pawpaw, and loving husband to his late wife Ida of 43 years. "To know him is to love him".
Before his Pilgrim Pride days, he drove a truck. He raised his children and loved his wife. He was a family man. A hard-working and simple man. If you knew him, you know he loved his motorcycle, camping, riding his boat, Auburn football, NASCAR, Atlanta Braves, and we can't forget his WWE. His love for his furbabies are unmatched. Stinky and PACO Baby was his pride and joy.
Wendell is survived by his daughters & son-in-law Angel & Nathan Tackett and Beth Brown; grandchildren Samantha Tackett, Lexie & Thomas Smallwood, Gracie & Brandon Tackett, Mandie Smallwood, Destiny Brown, Bailey Tackett, and Weslee Smith; great-grandchild Nova Wilson; siblings Harris & Mattie Barksdale, Clyde & Rosie Barksdale, Mattie & Kenneth Robinson, and Ann & Randy Holloway; a host of nieces and nephews; and his furbabies Stinky and Paco Baby.
He is preceded in death by his wife Ida Bennett; sons Junior Wesley Bennett and Wesley Joe Bennett; mother Elizabeth Bennett; and sisters Marie McGlaun, Joyce Dunn, and Bonnett Bennett
In his trucking days he was known as "Flying Eagle". Your job is done here now and you're in your heavenly home. So Soar Flying Eagle, Soar.
