Odell Lee

Odell Lee, born February 10, 1940, passed away on July 22, 2026, in Albertville. Odell’s life was marked by deep devotion to his family, steadfast service to his country and community, and a warm, generous spirit that touched all who knew him.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Wanda Lee, whose partnership and love formed the cornerstone of Odell’s life. He is also remembered by his daughter, Melanie Lee Cole, and his sons-in-law, Bob Cole and John Nelson. Odell’s legacy continues in his grandchildren: Christopher and Laci Williams, Ryan Chamblee, Brittany Freeman Thacker and Nathan, Jake and Ashley Freeman, Earl and Cassie Cole, and in his great-grandchildren: Alicia, Maci, Aiden, Myles, and Amelia. He is also survived by his brothers Ollie J Lee and Nolen Lee, sisters-in-law Ruth and Betty, and sister Sadie Johnson.

Odell was predeceased by his father, Johnny Lee, and his mother, Rosie Lee; his daughter, Monica Lee Freeman; his sister, Louise Whisenant; his sister-in-law, Glenna Lee; his brother, William Lee; his nephew, Byron Lee; and his brothers-in-law, Gene Edmonds and David Walker. Their memories, cherished and never forgotten, stand as a testament to the close-knit family Odell held dear.

A proud veteran, Odell served his country faithfully as a member of the Army. During his years of service, he contributed during the Cuban Crisis, as well as at posts in New Orleans and Ft Jackson. His commitment was unwavering despite the demands placed upon him, and he was honorably discharged in 1966 following injuries sustained in the line of duty. This chapter of Odell’s life defined him as a man of courage, resilience, and sacrifice.

Odell’s career was varied and deeply rooted in hard work. He was a skilled welder and a diligent groundskeeper, both roles in which his work ethic and attention to detail stood out. Yet, in his community, Odell may be best remembered for embodying the spirit of Christmas: for thirty-four years, he served as Santa Claus, bringing joy and wonder to generations of children and families. His commitment to this cherished role captured Odell’s kindness, generosity, and delight in making others happy—a reflection of the very heart of his personality.

Throughout his life, Odell’s presence was a source of steadiness, humor, and gentle strength. Whether tending to the needs of his family, serving his community, or donning Santa’s red suit, he approached each endeavor with sincerity and love. Those who knew him looked to Odell for support, laughter, and a steadfast example of integrity.

The family invites friends and loved ones to gather in remembrance of Odell at Marshall Memorial Funeral Home, located at 3368 AL Hwy 205 N, Albertville, AL 35950. Visitation will be held on July 25, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 12:00 p.m.

Odell Lee will be dearly missed by all who were fortunate to know him, but his legacy will continue to live on through his family, his service, and the countless lives he touched.
