John Edward Lacy, age 79, passed away May 31, 2026 peacefully surrounded by the love of his family.

Born on August 13, 1946, Edward was a man of strong faith, remarkable wisdom, and unwavering dedication to his family, church and community. His career began at a young age with Kendall Mills, where he worked as a pattern maker. He took great pride in his work and remained faithfully employed there for 45 years until the plant closed in 2010.

Edward was gifted with his hands and could seemingly do anything he set his mind to. He was a craftsman, builder, problem solver, and teacher to many. Alongside his beloved wife, Bonnie, he spent many years creating and selling handmade crafts, a passion they shared until dementia gradually took that joy from them.

On May 30, 1976, he married the love of his life, Bonnie Lou Burgess Lacy, beginning a partnership that would span 50 years. Together they built a home filled with faith, laughter, hard work, and unconditional love. Through every season of life, they remained devoted to one another, serving as an example of enduring commitment to their family and all who knew them. Their love story stands as one of Edward's greatest legacies. As his family reflects on a life well lived, they are especially grateful for the five decades of love and devotion he shared with Bonnie. The example he set as a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and follower of Christ will continue to guide and inspire those who loved him.

Edward faithfully served as Sunday School Director at both Pine Grove #2 Baptist Church and New Harmony Baptist Church. He was known for his deep knowledge of Scripture, his godly wisdom, and his ability to make God's Word come alive through storytelling. Many will remember his moving recitations of The Christmas Guest and The Funeral of Jesus, presentations that touched hearts and became treasured traditions. Blessed with an extraordinary memory, he could even recite the Gettysburg Address from his school days.

Above all, Edward loved the Lord and loved his family. He leaves behind a legacy of faith, integrity, hard work, and kindness that will continue through the generations that follow him.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Bonnie Lou Burgess Lacy; his daughters, Monica Honea (Denson) and Rachel Rainer (Eric); grandchildren, Cason Honea (Alexus), Branson Honea, Callie Holmes, and Landyn Rainer; and his cherished great-granddaughter, Raelynn Ann Honea. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Edna Lacy; his brother, Harold Lacy; and his sister, Bonnie Taylor.

Though his family grieves his absence, they rejoice in the promise of eternal life and take comfort in knowing that he is whole again in the presence of his Savior. His life was a blessing, his memory a treasure, and his love a gift that will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew him.

Those who knew Edward knew that Proverbs 3:5-6 was more than a favorite Scripture—it was the foundation of his life. He trusted the Lord wholeheartedly, sought God's wisdom in every circumstance, and pointed his family toward faith through both his words and his example.

"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths."
