Joe Paul Baggett, Sr., 85, passed away at Shepherd’s Cove Hospice on March 29, 2022, with his family by his side. Services will be held at Marshall Memorial Funeral Home on Friday, April 1st at 12:00 pm with Brother Anthony Barnes officiating. Special words will be given by Joe’s loving son’s and son in law, Keith, Wayne and Joey.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Hazel Baggett; and his brother, Cornelius Baggett.
Joe was born September 12, 1936, in Piedmont, Alabama, the oldest brother of 8 siblings. Joe attended school in Hokes Bluff, Alabama and went into the Navy in 1955. He served for 4 years on the aircraft carrier USS Yorktown in the Far East.
Joe and Shirley met in 1961 at the Dari Cup in Piedmont, AL; and they married in Centre in 1962.
Joe & Shirley moved to the Atlanta area in 1964, where they worked and raised their family. Joe worked 29 years and retired from General Electric. He was a member of the Buford Church of God in Buford, Georgia. Joe & Shirley moved back to Alabama in 2001 to help care for their parents and chose to remain.
After moving to Grant, Joe attended Grace Fellowship Baptist Church in Scottsboro. Known to his friends as “Mr. Joe,” he was very active volunteering for several charities and local business events. Joe did fundraisers for Shepherd’s Cove Hospice, selling the fans, bird houses, crosses, and sunflowers he made. From these projects, he was called “Sunflower Joe and His Fans.”
Joe is survived by his wife of 60 years, Shirley Cook Baggett; three children: Paula (Keith) Henderson, Wayne (Erin) Baggett, and Joey (Meredith) Baggett; five grandsons: Rob (Maria) McQuaig, Will McQuaig, Josh (Faith) Henderson, Eric Henderson, and Blaze Baggett; five great grandchildren: Liam McQuaig, Brianna McQuaig, Harper Henderson, Hayden Henderson, and Clara Henderson.

The family will receive friends at Marshall Memorial Funeral Home from 10:00 am until the start of the service on Friday.
