Hazel Ruth Cooper, lovingly known as Ruth, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 12, 2026, in Guntersville, Alabama.
Ruth was born on October 1, 1940, to Sadie and Raymond Powell. She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Aaron Cooper; her sisters, Othalua Naler, Vivian Townsend, Dean Duckett, Jean Sybert, and Sue Gregory; and her brothers, Sylvester Powell, Willie J. Powell, Larry Powell.
She is survived by her two sons, Michael Keith Cooper (Maryann Cooper) and David Cooper (Karen Cooper); and her nephew, Brian Gregory, who was like a third son to her. She also leaves behind six cherished grandchildren: Joseph Alexander III, Rebecca Cooper, Amy Goldberg (Ethan Goldberg), Jacob Cooper (Rachel Cooper), James Cooper, and Kaylene Cooper; as well as eleven great-grandchildren.
Ruth was a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Guntersville, where she was active in her Ladies ETC Sunday School class. A devout Christian, she loved the Lord deeply and lived her faith through her kindness, generosity, and love for others.
She was also a proud member of the B Team Angels. Ruth was loved by everyone who knew her because she truly never met a stranger. She had a special gift for making others feel remembered and cared for, faithfully sending handwritten cards and letters for birthdays, baptisms, and other meaningful occasions. She also kept friends and family well fed with her famous pecan pies and other Southern delights, sharing her love through every meal she prepared.
Ruth dearly loved living in Guntersville and was especially proud to call Buck Island home. She will be remembered as generous, loving, and kind—a woman whose warmth and faith touched countless lives.

Funeral services will be held on July 15, 2026, a Visitation will take place from 10:00am – 12:00pm with a Chapel service to follow at 12:00pm at Marshall Memorial Funeral Home, 3368 AL Hwy 205 N, Albertville, AL 35950. Ruth will be laid to rest at Marshall Memorial Gardens, beside her beloved husband, Aaron.
