Dennis Glenn Gunter, age 74, of Boaz, Alabama, passed away on August 21, 2025.
A lifelong resident of the area, Dennis was known for his strong work ethic, sense of humor, and larger-than-life personality. He served his community as both a firefighter and a mechanic—professions that reflected his hands-on skill and heart for others.
To his son Glenn, Dennis was nothing short of a hero. In his younger years, with his rugged looks and calm confidence, he reminded many of Clint Eastwood—especially Glenn, who always believed his dad was the real deal. Dennis had a deep love for the simple things in life: fishing, treasure-hunting at auctions and yard sales, and spending quiet afternoons under a shade tree. His lifestyle often brought to mind the charm and grit of Sanford and Son, a comparison his family made with affection and laughter.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, George and Pearly Mae Gunter; and his siblings Thelma Lee Gunter, Earl Gene Gunter, Mozell Rice, Irene Armstrong, and Eloise Ogle.
He is survived by his devoted son Glenn Gunter; his chosen son and close friend, Johnny Ray Smith; and his brothers John Gunter, James Edward Gunter, and Troy Lee Gunter. He also leaves behind countless memories that will be cherished by those who knew and loved him.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 25, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Marshall Memorial Funeral Home, who is entrusted with the arrangements. The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm until the start of the service.
Dennis lived a life filled with grit, humor, and heart—and his presence will be deeply missed.
